Role of Parliamentarians in Improving Nutrition

Parliamentarians have a key role in terms of policy making, approval of budgets and holding governments accountable. However one of the most prominent questions is how or what role they can play as policy makers in terms of the design and approval of policies and actions that will be effective in improving the quality of food, diets and the nutrition of the population they serve.

 

Adopted in 2015, the Chilean law on food labeling and advertising provides interesting insights, both in terms of approval process and means of implementation to reduce obesity at country level.
