6.7d Avoid spamming on e-mail addresses

Guideline

Following are some basic options to avoid receiving spam through your online FAO e-mail address. Unfortunately, for accounts like Webmaster@fao.org (and others published on the Internet), it is probably too late to prevent spam. For new accounts, it is worth implementing at least one of these options:

JavaScript

Ways of using JavaScript to avoid spamming - visit the following Web sites;

Non-clickable image

Create an image (.GIF) of your e-mail address. It should not be clickable.

Special character code

Inside your <a xhref=> code avoid using @ and replace it instead with &#64; i.e. in its written form joe.bloggs@fao.org becomes joe.bloggs&#64;fao.org

Use a form-based reply system

This means that when a user clicks the contact link, a form appears that the user must submit without revealing your actual e-mail address.
