8.2 PromotionGuidelineIt's great to have a new Web site, now you have to publicize it! Promoting your site with partners and external audiences is just as important as promoting it within FAO. Search engines count the number of times a page is linked to by other sites when they rank an entry on the results page. Intranet log-on messageTo post a message related to the launch of a new Web site, you should write to AFSI through the Director of the originating Division. Messages should not exceed six lines and should be submitted at least 48 hours before the posting date. Messages are usually displayed for one day only. Sample text:
OCP Press releaseEach department has a communication officer assigned by OCP. If you believe your Web site merits a press release on the Newsroom home page, contact your communications officer. Post a news item on other FAO Web sitesThere are other FAO Web sites where you could post a small news item on the launch of the new site. For example, Departmental or Divisional Web sites often have a news area where the latest news and events are posted. Find out who updates these sites and have your news posted there. Customized e-card to all contacts both internally and externallyA great way of telling people that you are online is through e-cards that are sent via e-mail. The e-card text should be personalized depending on the audience. E-cards can be created by designing the card on a word document and copy and pasting into an e-mail. Sample e-card: Marketing materialsMarketing materials that can be easily distributed during meetings, conferences and at other events where partners and potential Web audiences are present, is an ideal way to market the new URL address of the Web site.
