3.4 Identify resourcesGuidelineDeveloping the budget is usually the task of the Web site sponsor and/or the Web site manager, or whoever is managing the project. While this topic does not cover all necessary budgeting procedures, it provides guidelines for three often-overlooked issues in planning:
External consultants and suppliersMake sure they are aware of the Web Guide, in particular of the sections more closely related to their assignments (e.g. see 5. Design for interface/graphic designers and see 6. Construction for implementers). Include the FAO Web Quality Assurance Checklist in the TORs. Budgeting for translationAs per the FAO Web Quality Assurance Checklist, a Web site being launched should be available at least in three FAO languages. However, as requested by Member countries, it is recommended to publish the Web site in all six FAO languages. To obtain an estimate for translation costs, please check the rates for web pages available on the Intranet (Charges for CSCM Translation [internal]) , which are calculated by thousand words. To submit a request and agree on deadlines, contact CSC. If you have large quantities of text, you may want to consider contracting external translators listed on the Organization's Corporate Sub-Roster of External Translators (managed by CSC) at mutually agreed rates. |
