Project Babelverse, using crowd sourcing for interpreting

Babelverse logo

Babelverse is an application for real-time voice interpretation powered by humans.

Instead of automated techniques that rely on a combination of speech recognition, machine translation and robotic speech Babelverse have developed a system based on people that preserves the quality, context, cultural relevance, tone and emotion of the spoken word.

Quality

Remotely connecting interpreters and users from anywhere in the world, it removes the reliance on expensive specialised equipment and on-site interpreters. In so doing, it renders irrelevant the barriers of language or geography.

Furthermore, it allows anybody to benefit from on-the-spot interpretation, remotely via the internet or over the phone, during their everyday conversations, when doing business, traveling, or any situation, for around the cost of a mobile phone call.

Users can request interpretation via their computer, smartphone or other mobile device and then use their headphones to listen to the interpreter, via their browser, Skype, SIP, or even a phone call to a local number.

Upon making a request, they will be assigned a personalised ranking of interpreters that are the best fit (automatically taking into account language pair, availability, ratings, expertise, accent). To ensure high quality, listeners rate their interpreter after each session. Users will also be able to re-employ their favourite interpreters.

Their vision

They aim is to gather multilingual members all over the world, making on-demand interpretation in any language easily accessible and affordable to everyone, at any time, and on any device.

Their vision is the seemingly science-fictional idea of everyone being able to simply talk to each other in their respective native languages, and seamlessly understand each other.
