How the World Bank reshaped its Web site

The World Bank home page

Two leaders of the World Bank Web team visited FAO headquarters in November to share the Bank’s experience of a major upgrade to its Web site.  The visitors were:

  • Nicole Frost, Web program lead for the World Bank
  • Zafar Azhar, head of technology and innovation at the World Bank

The World Bank Web team leaders met with FAO colleagues to share lessons learned and take questions on the recent major upgrading of www.worldbank.org.

The topics covered included:

  • governance
  • knowledge management
  • communication
  • handling of data
  • corporate branding
  • choice of Web content management system

The event was an invaluable opportunity to learn from their mistakes and successes of the World Bank, and to deepen FAO's understanding of the project that lies ahead in reshaping www.fao.org.

The World Bank team will be sharing a number of documents with us, including their Web and social media strategies and their quality guidelines for Web pages.  In the meantime, we can circulate the Powerpoint slides used in Nicole’s and Zafar’s presentations.
