10.2 Organizing your text on the pageOnce written, text needs to be formatted on a Web page. If you can visualize the first page of a newspaper, you will know that there are different-sized headlines, different sizes of font, bold and italics. Not only does this tell the reader the importance of the story as judged by the editor but it also makes the page much easier to read. Scannability and readability are key design concepts that are used by Web page editors as well as newspaper editors. By making the page easily readable and scannable, you are improving ten-fold your users' experience of your site. Create subheadings and photosAttempt to break your page up by putting sections in the text. If one or two paragraphs are speaking explicitly about one subject, provide a sub-heading accordingly. Make sure the sub-heading is intuitive and succinct. Break it up with bulleted/numbered listsExample: Keep resources separate and link to themHaving too many live links inside text is confusing and annoying. Create a resource box where links to important and related Web sites, documents and other multimedia can be listed. This is also useful if the subject you are writing about has many synergies and cross linkages with other topics or areas of work: instead of elaborating in the text, you can mention them in passing but link to more information in the resources box.
