Webinar on sexual harassment and gender-based violence

The Task Force on Gender Equity (GE-TF) will be holding its second webinar on Monday, 28 September 2020, from 16:00 - 18:00 CEST, which will focus on the priority issue of sexual harassment and gender-based violence in the banana industry. Among the topics to be discussed are the ILO Convention No. 190 and Recommendation No. 206, as well as key experiences, ideas and opportunities to put the Convention and Recommendation into practice in the banana industry.   • Valentina Beghini, International Labour Organization (ILO):

Outline of the ILO Convention No. 190 and Recommendation No. 206 on ‘Violence and harassment in the world of work,’ including a brief update on ratifications and potential next steps for the banana industry.

  • Adwoa Sakyi, IUF Regional Womens Coordinator for Africa:

Introduction to the main sexual harassment and gender-based violence issues at plantation level and existing trade union and company initiatives on the practical implementation of the aforementioned Convention and Recommendation. 

  • Tania Moodley, Tesco Responsible Sourcing Manager:

Introduction to the Tesco Gender Strategy, including lessons from the South African fruit industry initiative to develop farm level grievance mechanisms as a key tool to tackling sexual harassment and gender-based violence issues at source.
