Conference "Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change- Celebrating World Food Day"

Belgium - 12/10/2016

The FAO Liaison Office in Brussels organized two sessions at the European Parliament and at the European Commission on 12 October to celebrate World Food Day 2016. The first celebration was held in the morning as part of a lunchtime conference by the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development of the European Commission.

In the afternoon, the second WFD 2016 event was commemorated during a joint session of the Agriculture, Environment and Development Committees at the European Parliament (EP). Astrid Agostini, FAO Senior Natural Resources officer attended both events and gave a presentation on “Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security entitled “The time to act is now”. Her presentation provided an overview of FAO’s work in the field on climate change and how agriculture can contribute to climate change adaptation and climate mitigation. Both events were followed by a debate with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and representatives of the European Commission.
