FAO in Kwacha Good Morning Zambia TV Program
George Okech, FAO Representative in Zambia, appeared on the Kwacha Good Morning Zambia live TV program on 8 October where he spoke about the World Food Day 2016 theme and the International Year of Pulses. The program is aired daily by the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). Okech mentioned how FAO is working closely with partners to ensure that its member states receive the support they need, through international initiatives aimed at scaling up climate action in the agricultural sectors. He added that World Food Day 2016 is an opportunity to re-focus our efforts, and join together as countries work towards an immediate and comprehensive response to climate change. He also recognized 2016 as the International Year of Pulses, and the importance of pulses in building food and nutrition security and alleviating hunger and rural poverty. Okech added that people should be more aware of the benefits of pulses as a critical source of plant-based proteins, as well as an eco-friendly environmentally-sustainable food choice.
