World Food Day Celebration in Indonesia
World Food Day was celebrated in Boyolali with a set of activities including a special ceremony and an exhibition on agriculture technology.
On 28 October 2016, the FAO Representative in Indonesia, Mark Smulders opened the official ceremony. Other speeches on the impact of climate change in Indonesia were presented by the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo and the Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman. The event was also attended by the Regent of Boyolali, by members of the House of Representatives and by other high rank government officials. After the ceremony, the attendees visited a WFD Exhibition with over 200 exhibition booths hosted by various ministries/agencies, state-owned enterprises, local governments, international organizations and private companies.
On 29 October, the President of Indonesia Jokowi visited the grand harvest in Trayu Village at the Boyolali district with representatives of FAO Indonesia, and met local farmers. The President then visited an exhibition of agricultural products with over 200 participants from 34 provinces, each promoting the diversity of Indonesian food sources.
