World Food Day celebrated in Georgia

Georgia - 20/10/2016

Climate change and the International Year of Pulses were the main themes of the World Food Day event in Georgia, opened by the Assistant FAO Representative in Georgia Mamuka Meskhi and the Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili. Presenters provided an overview of FAO’s successful work in Georgia and discussed key sectors and the need to reinforce the agriculture sector to ensure sustainable development in the face of climate change. Students took part in the event and presented their vision of a new generation in the fight against climate change.

The second part of the event was dedicated to the International Year of Pulses. The good agricultural practice of preserving, producing and promoting pulses in Georgia was presented by the Bio-farming Association Elkana, while famous Georgian-Spanish Chef Manuel Baranda spoke about ways to use traditional Georgian beans, peas, chickpeas and lentils in modern cuisine. After his speech, guests were invited to taste traditional Georgian and European dishes made of pulses by Chef Baranda.
