World Food Day

WFD 2019 Celebrations in Accra

This year, FAO Regional Office for Africa and FAO Ghana will jointly organize three exciting events in Accra, Ghana.  Under the slogan “Our actions are our future. Healthy diets for a #ZeroHunger world”, FAO calls for faster and more ambitious action across sectors to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger. DJ Switch will be joining the events to perform and celebrate the World Food Day spirit.

 

DAY 1: OUR ACTIONS ARE OUR FUTURE

Tuesday, October 15, 2019: Labadi Beach Hotel, 08:30am

Young SDG Solution Ambassadors, development partners and community leaders will gather to discuss solutions to achieve Zero Hunger, plus other factors in Africa’s greatest challenges for achieving the SDGs. This day, FAO will award the World Food Day poster contest winner and Chef Addo will do a cooking demonstration on healthy eating and indigenous foods, highlighting the Tastes of the Sahel.

 

DAY 2: SEED TO SALAD

Thursday, October 17, 2019: Independence Arch, 07:30am

School children will demonstrate the cycle of life, from seed to salads, each representing an element in the cycle. Through this colorful live illustration, the event aims to emphasize the importance of healthy, balanced nutrition in our diets through the voices of children. FAO will share the World Food Day spirit at the Independence Arch, a symbolic landmark that represents freedom, highlighting the interconnectedness of people. The artist Kwame Eugene will also join the event to celebrate with his Highlife and Afrobeats tunes.

 

DAY 3: HEALTHY DIET FOR A GOOD LIFE WALK

Friday, October 18, 2019: Efua Sutherland Park, 08:00am

FAO Staff and stakeholders will walk together to create awareness on the need for Healthy Diets, in front of a decorated float. Participants including skateboarders, farmers with baskets, and children wearing #WFD2019 T-shirt will parade through principal streets of Accra. The parade will start at the FAO Regional Office for Africa and end at Efua Sutherland Children’s park.
