1. Each participant can submit up to 3 pictures with comments

2. Photographs must represent  Black Soil (click here for the definition of Black Soils)

3. All photographs should be sent by email to [email protected] by 13 November, 2017

1. Entrants must have taken the photographs themselves. They may have been taken at any time prior to the contest launch;

2. Photographs should not contain dates or text;

3. All photographs should be in jpeg format;

4. Participants must submit the following information along with the photos: 

• Name and Surname;
• Date of Birth;
• Email;
• Title and Description of the Photograph;
• Location (country, region), and date of the photograph.

1. Take a photo of an amazing Black Soil. This could be:

• An extraordinary Black Soil in an unusual place
• Black Soils that have been restored by humans
• Black Soils that are struggling to survive degradation and the effects of climate change
• Black Soil that you consider a champion for other reasons 

2. Tell us why the black soil is so important and attach the photo (minimum size is 1500 x 2100 pixels; 300 dpi; up to 7 MB) to your email. 

3. Finally, don’t forget to post your photo if you have a Twitter, Flickr or Instagram account, using the competition hashtags: #Soils and #WorldSoilDay. We'll retweet some of your photos. 

1. File size: Minimum size is 1500 x 2100 pixels; 300 dpi; up to 7MB;
2. Image data files should be created with digital smartphones and still cameras (including medium and large-format cameras).

1. Winning entries may be reproduced for possible inclusion in future promotional materials;
2. Entry in the contest represents consent to use the photos in future publications without compensation.

• 16 October - 13 November: Submission of photos by email to [email protected];
• 14-21 November 2017: Selection of the best photos by the Jury for inclusion in the Facebook photo contest. The Jury, composed of members of the GSP secretariat with the help of a professional photographer, will select the best pictures to be posted on Facebook for the public voting phase ("Like to win" giveaway);
• 21 November - 5 December 2017: the 12 most liked pictures will win the "When Soils turn Black" photo contest. The winners will receive soil related gadgets and an FAO certificate. In addition, their photos will be published on the FAO website and used for the first ever published Black Soils’ photo calendar, together with an article featuring the winning pictures in the framework of the World Soil Day.
