FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, as previously announced, expected essays of maximum 5000 words from agricultural university students in Hungary, in the following topic: World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bioenergy.
Despite of the short deadline, numerous essays were received from university students, mainly from agricultural faculties. All of them contained creative ideas, and valuable thoughts which could be part of the complex solution in the issue of world food security.
The FAO evaluating committee awarded four essays to be published considered outstanding in terms of moral message and professional value. The evaluation was based on comparison of the content and the educational background of the candidates.
The three winners, besides the certificate, were awarded a portable computer each, which they have taken over from Ms Maria Kadlecikova, Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, and Ms Fernanda Guerrieri, Sub-Regional Coordinator for Central and Eastern Europe, at the Word Food Day 2008 ceremony, 16 October 2008, in the Vajdahunyad Castle.
