Mission

FAO's Mission, in fulfilment of the purpose for which it was established (Preamble of the Constitution) and in full respect of its mandate (Article 1 of the Constitution), as approved by the Thirtieth Session of the FAO Conference in November 1999 (The Strategic Framework for FAO, 2000-2015), is to help build a food-secure world for present and future generations through assisting Members in:

reducing food insecurity and rural poverty;

ensuring an enabling policy and regulatory framework for food and agriculture, fisheries and forestry;

securing sustainable increases in the supply and availability of food;

conserving and enhancing the natural resource base;

generating knowledge of food and agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
