Review experience of reforms and structural adjustment in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) agriculture and rural sector, as relevant for the process of integration with the European economy;
Assessment of need for technical assistance that could be provided by FAO
- in collaboration with UNDP as part of UN Country Team, with focus on the Millennium Development Goals process;
- in synergy with European Commission programmes and projects and
- in collaboration with the World Bank, EBRD and bilateral donors
for institutional adjustment and capacity building to continue reforms and integration with the European economy.
Target groups:
Senior and medium level technical staff of Ministry of Agriculture and Government agencies responsible for rural development, education, research and extension institutions; representatives of the private sector, in particular agribusiness, farmers' and producers' organizations. Representatives of Government agencies responsible for European integration will be invited to participate and contribute to seminar debates. National NGOs with a proven record of capacity building and framing in European integration in agriculture sector will also be invited to contribute and participate.
Format of consultations:
A two-day consultation will be organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture with SEUR support. For the purpose of the consultations, SEUR will commission the preparation and delivery of up to five presentations for the agenda item: The experience of CEE transition economies in. reforms and integration with the European economy.
