Joint FAO/WFP Crop and Food Supply assessment missions visits Ethiopia annually to estimate cereal and pulse production and forecast the food balance for the following year. On the basis of joint mission report, the Government appeals to donors for food aid and emergency supply of agricultural inputs to rehabilitate affected farmers to resume their normal agricultural activities. The FAO WFP and Food Supply Assessment Mission to Ethiopia will visit the country from 8 November – 7 December 2003 to assess the year 2003 Meher Crop Production and Food Supply for the year 2004. The national cereal and pulse production in the Meher season of the year 2003 is forecast at 13 million tones.
