FAO's Emergency Activities

[Back]

FAO plays a key role during periods of drought and famine. Indeed, it is in this context that a Livestock Working Group (LWG) has been established in the year 2000, as a response to the recurring livestock crises in Ethiopia and the complexity of relief and rehabilitation response. One of the major aims was to enable better response to the situation in the livestock sector, where only a thin line exists between chronic under development and emergency.

The LWG is a platform for discussion, exchange of experience, technical advice, training and streamlining of activities. Monthly discussion meetings are organized by Fao as part of the activities of the LWG. The LWG is open to all NGO's UN and Government bodies involved in livestock emergency, rehabilitation and early warning.
