South-South Co-operation Programme

[Back]

At the heart of FAO's South South Co-operation initiative is exchange of knowledge and experience between developing countries. In this scheme, more advanced developing nations send experts and technicians to work directly with their counterparts and farmers in other developing countries.

In Ethiopia the South South Co-operation involves a technical co-operation agreement between China , Ethiopia and FAO to develop integrated rural development project in the Region of Tigray and to undertake study and plan of an integrated Watershed Management at Haik in Amhera Region.

The Chinese experts in collaboration with Ethiopian counterparts have prepared an integrated development plan for the Jarre-mille watershed near Haik. Two Chinese experts are now assisting the Amhara Bureau of Agriculture in the implementation of the Water Harvesting and control component of the development plan. Another 7 Chinese participants are working with the Tigray Bureau of agriculture and Natural Resource Development in the preparation of an integrated rural development plan of Hadnet.
