TeleFood Projects

[Back]

Telefood, an initiative of the FAO is a televised event aimed at increasing public awareness of world hunger and soliciting contributions to support FAO's Special Programme for Food Security and other grassroots projects that help poor farming communities produce more food. TeleFood events center around the observance of the World Food Day on 16 October. In the year 2003 World Food day event on the theme of “International Alliase Against Hunger” was celebrated in Gurage Zone, Abeshage woreda, at Holie Development centre of the SNNP Region zone 172 km. from Addis Ababa .

Eight Small TeleFood projects on Vegetable Production, fisheries, poultry and sheep husbandry are currently operational in Ethiopia .

TeleFood projects do not exceed US$10,000 each and are mainly aimed at disadvantaged groups such as women and youth. Although small in scale and cost, TeleFood projects make significant impact.
