FAO Projects in Georgia National TCP Projects FAO national TCP projects focus on the following key areas: • Viticulture rehabilitation Regional TCP Projects FAO TCP projects cover also the following areas of the regional concern: • Institutional strengthening to facilitate regional trade for BSEC member states SPFS Projects Under the Special Programme for Food Security, TCP/GEO8821 “Small Scale Irrigation and Drainage Rehabilitation Pilot Project” was implemented in 1997-2001. The Project has addressed several essential components of food security at village level. Rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage schemes in Misaktsieli and Patara Poti along with establishment of the water users’ associations had very positive impact towards reducing the food insecurity and creating the sustainable economic environment in the rural areas. Emergency TCP Projects Emergency provision of agricultural inputs to locust-, drought-, flood- and landslide-affected farming households were implemented in Georgia in 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2005. GCP Projects Two project profiles on vegetable and fruits production, subject to donor funding, have been developed by FAO experts in cooperation with the Government of Georgia. The projects would contribute to increase of rural incomes and, hence, improving food security for rural people, by shifting them from semi-subsistence farming to clear market-oriented production of high-added value crops. Introduction of intensive agricultural technologies could significantly foster the business environment in rural communities and promote investments in high value agricultural produce.
