LOBR follows the work of the European Commission (EC) and other organs of the European Union (EU), as well as discussions and decisions of the European Parliament (EP) in areas of relevance to FAO policies and programmes and facilitates communication and cooperation between FAO, the Government of Belgium, the General Secretariat of the African, Caribean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and other institutions, including non-governmental organizations represented in Brussels and academia based in Belgium.

The Liaison Office provides information as regards EU policies in the areas of development, agriculture and consumer protection with potential implications for FAO's field of activities, arranges as appropriate for visits of FAO officials to the EC, briefs the officials of the latest development concerning matters related to their missions.
