The RR's office
 ensures the efficient functioning of the RO, and oversees the utilization of the staff and resources allocated to it;
identifies regional priorities and contributes to the development of the Programme of Work and Budget of the Organization and related work plans;
coordinates field programme development and implementation; and
provides support for, and ensures the implementation of, the corporate, global and regional activities with the functional guidance of the units concerned at headquarters and in close cooperation with OCD and the Technical Cooperation Department (TC).
Regional Representative
The RR
is responsible for developing, promoting and overseeing FAO's strategies to respond to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development, and for the implementation of programmes/projects related to regional priorities;
is the senior representative of the Director General in the region and represents FAO vis-à-vis region-wide institutions and media;
is responsible for addressing region-wide food security, agriculture and rural development issues;
leads the RO in the performance of its functions, supervises the Administrative Unit and the Subregional Coordinators (SRCs); and
provides functional guidance on regional priorities to all FAO Units as well as on administrative/managerial issues to ROTOs.
The RR, in the context of FAO's mandate, its corporate priorities, procedures and policies, ensures that regional and subregional organizations, as well as FAO's member countries in the region, obtain assistance from FAO or other partners, in accordance with agreed assistance priorities. In this regard, RR is assisted by the Subregional Offices (SROs). RR leads the support to regional organizations, commissions and bodies, contributes to the formulation of regional strategies, policies and assistance priorities and ensures coherence between global, regional and subregional priorities. RR works in the line of command of the Director-General with whom generally communicates through OCD.
