About the Crops and Pasture
Unit
Crop
and Pasture Production is a sub-unit of the Agriculture Group of
FAO's Regional Office for Africa that supports member country efforts
to improve sustainable food crops production, promote industrial
crop development and the development and management of grasslands
and forage crops. The
sub-unit focuses on the intensification and diversification of cropping
systems to achieve food security and reduce poverty while promoting
environmentally friendly technologies and appropriate policies.
Attention is given to the production of cereals ( such as rice,
maize, sorghum, millet etc,) horticultural produce ( fruits, vegetables,
roots and tubers etc.) industrial crops ( coconut, cocoa, sesame
etc.) and forage crops ( legumes and grasses) and the management
of grasslands particularly in arid ecosystems.
