Agricultural and Economic Development Analysis

Objectives of the sub-programme:

To monitor the implementation of the World Food Summit Plan of Action through servicing of the Committee on World Food Security and drawing the attention of the international community to issues underlying world food security, and to promote enhanced international understanding of issues relevant to combating chronic hunger, managing risk and responding to food and agricultural emergencies.

To support international and country level action to improve food security through an information and mapping system on the nature, magnitude and severity of different types of food insecurity and vulnerability problems and how they are changing over time.

Synopsis of envisaged regional/country assistance:

Provision of advice to member countries on monitoring the implementation of the World Food Summit Plan of Action, and in developing national FIVIMS programmes to improve the quality and interpretation of relevant statistical data on food insecurity in the country.
