Food And Nutrition
In the field of nutrition, FAO extends its technical assistance and support to national services to implement the FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme (Codex Alimentarius), improve nutritional status in peri-urban and rural areas, and strengthen nutrition components in relief and rehabilitation.
This year there will be a focus on the implementation at country level of the Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping System (FIVIMS), through training, preparation of nutrition country profiles, and production of methodologies and guidelines. In addition, there will be efforts to promote appropriate dietary guidelines and nutrition education activities. Food composition data bases are being developed in several countries and will be linked to form a regional data base.
