| Agriculture :: Support Systems |
 |
|
Deregulation, liberalization and globalization of trade in
agricultural products under the new World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations
have had a considerable impact on domestic agricultural producers in the region.
Small farmers need support not only to be more productive, but also to make their
produce more marketable, to reduce heavy postproduction losses and to add value
to their products. Rural and microfinance activities are also important tools for agricultural
development in the region.
The FAO regional office assists member countries and civil society in developing policies, strategies and methodologies for agricultural support systems and services covering the areas of:

|
Rural finance and agricultural marketing |
|
Farm management and farm system development |

Agro-industry and post-harvest management |
