The twenty-seventh FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific was held in Beijing, China from 17 to 21 May 2004. Representatives from 33 member countries participated as well as observers from UN member states, international non-governmental organizations, and UN and intergovernmental organizations. His Excellency Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China, delivered the inaugural address.
A round table on Financing for agricultural development was convened as a parallel meeting on 18 May 2004. The report of the parallel meeting is given in Appendix G of the report of the conference.
In conjunction with the conference, representatives of ten international non-governmental organizations and 44 local non-governmental and civil society organizations participated in the 15 to 16 May 2004 Asia-Pacific civil society regional consultation From Agenda to action – Follow-up to the NGO/CSO Forum on Food Sovereignty, the outcome of which was reported to the plenary session of the FAO conference. The NGO Beijing declaration is contained in Appendix F of the report of the conference. |
