Simon Funge-Smith
Senior Fishery Officer

Simon Funge-Smith coordinates the fisheries group, based in the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. As part of his duties he is the Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Fishery Commission (APFIC), a regional fishery body that acts as a consultative forum and works in partnership with other regional organizations, arrangements and members on fisheries and aquaculture related issues of regional concern (www.apfic.org). Mr Funge-Smith coordinates fisheries related work of FAO in the region and is also responsible for providing technical advice on inland, coastal and offshore fisheries. He is actively involved in a number of FAO projects in Asia, including multi-sectoral management of the Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem and Regional Small-scale Fisheries Livelihoods project.

Expertise: Sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture, promotion of responsible fisheries, particularly in developing countries; coastal and inland fisheries ecosystem management; fisheries livelihoods.


Weimin Miao
Aquaculture Officer

As the regional aquaculture officer, Weimin Miao is responsible for providing advice to member countries on aquaculture development; monitoring and reporting on the status, trends and key issues in aquaculture development in the region; and providing technical assistance to members on request and technical backstopping to field projects.

Expertise: Sustainable development of inland and coastal aquaculture, aquaculture systems and technologies, inland fisheries stock enhancement and culture based fisheries.


Jesper Clausen
Aquaculture Officer

Jesper Clausen works with aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific region. His work focuses on aspects of aquaculture related to food safety, certification and better management practices.

Expertise: Sustainable development of aquaculture, environmental management of aquaculture, food safety aspects of pre-harvest management.


David Lymer
Fishery Data and Information Officer

David Lymer works mainly with fishery and aquaculture data and information in the Asia-Pacific region. The key outputs of his work are: improved methods for data collection for small-scale fisheries and rural aquaculture, and improved information on status and trends of fisheries and aquaculture in the Asia-Pacific with the goal of improving fisheries and aquaculture management in the region.

Expertise: Fisheries and aquaculture statistics, inland aquatic ecosystems management, inland fisheries.


Pornsuda David
Technical Assistant

Pornsuda David provides technical assistance to the fisheries group on matters relating to publications, regional meetings and in particular as they relate to the work of the Asia Pacific Fisheries Commission (APFIC).


Kesara Aotarayakul
Secretary

Kesara Aotarayakul provides support to the fisheries group in the areas of staff travel, liaison and the day to day administration of the fisheries office.
