Patrick B. Durst
Senior Forestry Officer (Asia-Pacific)

Patrick Durst coordinates the forestry-related work of FAO in the region, including information exchange and dissemination, regional forestry studies, support to field projects, provision of policy and technical support to member countries, capacity building and institutional strengthening. He is also the Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission, which fosters collaboration among its 30 member countries in dealing with forestry development and issues of regional concern.

Expertise: Forest policy; economics; regional and international cooperation; forest management; agroforestry; wood energy; reforestation; ecotourism; trade; forest inventory; participatory forest management; information exchange; program development and management.


Masakazu Kashio
Forest Resources Officer (Asia-Pacific)

Masakazu Kashio coordinates the forest resources assessment and monitoring work, including FAO's Forest Resources Assessment (FRA), forestry statistics, forest inventory, and protected area management. He also provides technical support to member countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of silviculture, forest management and conservation, national park and wildlife management, community forestry, and non-wood forest products. He is an advisor to Tigerpaper.

Expertise: Forest resources assessment, forest inventory, forest ecology, botany, reforestation, environmental assessment, wildlife conservation, remote sensing and GIS, and non-wood forest products.


Simmathiri Appanah
National Forest Programme Advisor (Asia-Pacific)

Simmathiri Appanah oversees FAO's national forest programmes in the Asia-Pacific region. He also plays a major role in developing field projects, especially in activities related to forest policy and legislation, community forestry, research management, and many other aspects related to sustainable forest management. He is actively involved in providing technical assistance to the member states on many aspects of the above issues.

Expertise: National forest programmes; forest policies; several aspects of sustainable forest management that range from tropical forest ecology, silviculture and management of natural and plantation forests; research management and institutional development; environmental impact assessments; forest certification; forestry education; development of forestry networks.


Fan Xiaojie
National Forest Programme Facility Facilitator for Asia and the Pacific

Main duties: Support countries in the Asia-Pacific region to develop and implement national forest programme activities that effectively address local needs through active stakeholder participation. Responsible for concluding partnerships between NFP Facility and countries, coordinate provision of financial and technical support to stakeholders within partner countries, and promote information exchange on nfps in the region.

Expertise: Natural resource management, project preparation and management, regional cooperation in forestry.


Jeremy Broadhead
Consultant

Main duties: Prepare the Sub-regional outlook report for the South East Asia sub-region for the Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study (APFSOS II).

Expertise: Forestry sector analysis, project preparation and management, agroforestry, forest products modeling and statistics, plant ecophysiology.


Michael Pescott
Forestry Policy Officer (Asia-Pacific)

Main duties: Provides support to various forest policy related activities for the region, including the Asia-Pacific Forest Policy Think Tank, and a number of studies and workshops on forestry activities with policy implications.

Expertise: Forest policy, sustainable forest management, forest fire management, community participation, carbon accounting and climate change.


Beau Damen
Bioenergy Officer (Asia-Pacific)

Main duties: Provides technical assistance on issues related to promoting sustainable bioenergy development in the region. Responsible for fostering a coordinated, cross-disciplinary approach to regional challenges arising from the wider uptake of biofuels and bioenergy by countries in Asia and the Pacific.

Expertise: Biofuels and bioenergy; energy markets; commodity markets; economics; regional and international cooperation on bioenergy.


Masahiro Otsuka
Forestry Officer (Strengthening Monitoring, Assessment, and Reporting on Sustainable Forest Management in Asia (GCP/INT/988/JPN))

Main duties: Masahiro Otsuka is responsible for implementing the national activities of the project on "Strengthening Monitoring, Assessment, and Reporting (MAR) on Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) in Asia (GCP/INT/988/JPN)". He is developing collaborative programmes of the project with participating countries to strengthen the harmonization of forest-related MAR activities for sustainable forest management, including the development of national networks. He organizes and facilitates meetings, workshops, training programmes, field trials, etc. in project countries.

Expertise: Forest management, afforestation, social forestry, forestry/environmental policy, CDM, forest conservation, socio-economic research, forest fire management, participatory forestry programs, programme planning and evaluation, environmental education, institutional cooperation, and information management (websites, video, etc.).


Sverre Tvinnereim
Associate Professional Officer (Bioenergy)

Main duties: Provides technical assistance and analysis on bioenergy issues with the aim of promoting a coordinated, cross-disciplinary approach to developments in the Asia-Pacific region. Implements projects, gives presentations and facilitates workshops to meet that objective. Mr Tvinnereim also takes part in organizing activities and information for the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission.

Expertise: Bioenergy; political and economic analysis; project management.


Tattanakorn Moekchantuk
Coordination Consultant for Bioenergy and Food Security (BEFS) Project

Main duties: Coordinates with involved organizations and organizes meetings/workshops related to the project.

Expertise: Training.


Marija Spirovska-Kono
Consultant

Main duties: Assist and support implementation of on-going activities, workshops and meetings, develop proposal for project on forest invasive species, develop guidelines for implementing "Champions of Asia-Pacific Forests" program, conduct research on fascinating and unusual forestry facts.

Expertise: Protected areas management, community participation in management of natural resources.


Janice Naewboonnien
Editor, Tigerpaper

Main duties: Selects, edits and prepares layouts of articles for publication in Tigerpaper, a quarterly regional conservation news bulletin of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific dedicated to the exchange of information relating to wildlife and protected area management in the Asia-Pacific region; maintains mailing lists for forestry publications of the regional office; assists in the editing and proofreading of other regional office forestry publications.

Kallaya Meechantra
Secretary

Main duties: Coordinates and supports administrative functions, including travel arrangements, recruitment of consultants, procurement, monitoring of budget and expenditures; provides organizational support for meetings; distributes publications.

Alisa Wacharasetkul
Secretary for the project Strengthening Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting on Sustainable Forest Management in Asia (GCP/INT/988/JPN).

Main duties: Provides secretarial and administrative support for the project and to RAPO, including meetings and travel arrangements, distribution of publications.

Sansiri Visarutwongse
Statistical Clerk

Main duties: Collects and compiles forestry statistics; provides secretarial and administrative support; distributes publications; provides organizational support for meetings.
