| Information Management :: Partners |
 |
|
Partnerships are undertaken with governments, non-governmental organizations, UN agencies and other international and regional organizations with the common goal of building institutional capacity at national and local levels to manage and share agricultural information more effectively, and to facilitate and promote the development and adoption of internationally accepted standards and guidelines in agricultural information management.
Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI)
APAARI has identified several strategies and action plans, including (1) Regional Collaboration Network on Priority Programmes, and (2) Information Network of Centres of Excellence. It is on this latter priority that the regional office's information management team collaborates, in particular with the Asia-Pacific Agricultural Research Information System (APARIS) initiative, which is focused on developing information management capacity in national agricultural research centers.
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
FAO is working with CGIAR to standardize classification schemes and improve access to technical and scientific information. This collaboration is based on previous experiences of joint projects between FAO and some CGIAR centers and is currently focused on providing improved access to data and information holdings in CGIAR centers for CG system researchers, other researchers and the public. FAO and participating centers have developed the Information Finder service as a collaborative venture.
Philippine Agricultural Libraries and Information Services Network (PhilAgriNet)
PhilAgriNet was established in 2003 as the product of collaborative efforts among information management professionals in the field of agriculture. PhilAgriNet's major thrust is to create and maintain a central electronic database of Philippine technical agricultural literature and to link this with agricultural scientists worldwide. It is designed to complement existing local research networks such as the Philippine Library Network and the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture.
SEARCA Knowledge Management Program (KMP)
Since knowledge is SEAMEO SEARCA's primary resource and commodity, KMP now stands as a major program of SEARCA's research and development. KMP believes that information and communication technologies (ICTs) enable knowledge sharing and reuse. Together FAO and KMP are working to develop agricultural and rural knowledge systems and networks, including the AGRIS network, which will contribute to agricultural and rural development, higher education, research, and policy development in Southeast Asia.
Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC)
SPC is the premier regional technical and development organization of the Pacific, working in partnership with its members, other organizations and donors to deliver priority work programs to member countries and territories. Its work programs aim to develop the technical, professional, scientific, research, planning and management capability of Pacific island people and directly provide information and advice to enable them to make informed decisions about their future development and well-being. Together FAO and SPC are building capacity for the electronic production of agricultural documents and bibliographic database management.
