Thailand celebrates World Food Day in Nan province on 3 and 4 November

Thailand, 26 Oct 2009  --  Nan provincial authorities, in cooperation with the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the FAO regional office in Bangkok, are co-hosting the 2009 Thailand World Food Day celebration at the Technology Rajamongkol Lanna University on 3 and 4 November.

The celebration aims to create awareness among the Thai people about the importance of building food security in times of crisis.

The celebration brings together government officials, financial institutions and the private sector to highlight the plight of the hungry and lack of access to food by the poor, and calls for more efforts to produce additional food for an increasing world population.

Many activities are scheduled for the two days celebration, including drawing and essay contests for students and others focusing on the theme of self reliance and the sufficient economy.

More details are availble from the Thai language web site of the ministry.
