Sustainable Development :: Extension and Communication
FAO works to strengthen government and development organizations to help rural men, women and youth increase their knowledge and skills to improve their productivity, incomes and quality of life and manage the natural resources on which they depend in sustainable ways. In so doing, FAO addresses Millennium Development Goals 1, 2, 3 and 7 that relate to eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, and ensuring environmental sustainability, respectively.

Priority areas within the FAO regional office are:

Agricultural extension
Education for rural people, including rural youth
Communications for development

The extension and communication officer also acts as the focal point for coordinating activities relating to biotechnology.
