Asian Institute of Technology: Gender and Development Studies (AIT-GDS)

The Asian Institute of Technology: Gender and Development Studies (GDS) is a center for graduate studies, research and outreach in the School of Environment, Resources and Development. Within the overall gender specific framework, GDS highlights both the need for specialized academic degrees by awarding studies in gender and development, and through the integration of gender analysis and a gender relations perspective in AIT's other fields of study. FAO works with the AIT programme in the areas of gender mainstreaming in technology policies and programmes as well as distance learning.


Commonwealth of Learning Education Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA)

In response to needs expressed by the Commonwealth countries of the Asian region for more effective utilization of educational media resources for distance education, the Commonwealth of Learning established CEMCA in 1994. CEMCA operates as a regional media service of the Commonweath of Learning (COL) and functions through networking and information transfer. The strategic objective of CEMCA is to promote cooperation and collaboration in the use of electronic media resources for distance education. FAO collaborates with CEMCA and COL in gender and information and communication technologies.


International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT)

ICRISAT is one of the 16 Future Harvest Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). A non-profit, apolitical, international organization devoted to science-based agricultural development, FAO has worked with ICRISAT in the areas of ICTs and rural women, and gender, social capital and technology transfer.


Ministry of Women Affairs, Royal Government of Cambodia (MWA)

The Ministry of Women Affairs is the focal ministry for mainstreaming gender considerations in the policies and programmes of the Royal Government of Cambodia. The core mission of the Ministry is to promote gender mainstreaming strategies to achieve economic, political, legal and social empowerment of Cambodian women. FAO has partnered with the Ministry for programmes related to gender mainstreaming in the agriculture sector and in building rural women's capabilities to achieve food security and improve livelihoods.


M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF)

MSSRF is a non-profit trust. The basic mandate is to import a pro-nature, pro-poor and pro-women orientation to a job-led economic growth strategy in rural areas through harnessing science and technology for environmentally sustainable and socially equitable development. MSSRF has been FAO's constant partner in agrobiodiversity management and rural women as well as gender considerations in agriculture curriculum.


National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Lao PDR (NAFRI)

The National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) was established in 1999 by combining existing agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries research centres. NAFRI is a research organization under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF). FAO has initiated productive collaboration with NAFRI to address gender responsive policies in agriculture and to assist rural women as producers in rural economic production.


National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW)

The National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) is a government entity created in 1975 to serve as advisory body to the President and the Cabinet on policies and programs for the advancement of women. The mandate is to "review, evaluate and recommend measures, including priorities to ensure the full integration of women for economic, social and cultural development at national, regional and international levels, and to ensure further equality between women and men". FAO works with the Commission in articulating rural women's rights issues in polices and programmes both regionally and globally.


Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL)

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is the only recognized University in Sri Lanka where students, either employed or not, may pursue further education through distance learning techniques. OUSL's academic program enables students to combine theoretical study with meaningful real-world learning experiences. FAO works with OUSL in the areas of distance education for rural women and improving rural service providers' capabilities through appropriate content in distance education to serve the learning needs of rural women.


United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The UNDP is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP operates in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. The FAO regional office gender and development program has forged a productive partnership with UNDP programs in Bangladesh, Thailand and Viet Nam. In Bangladesh technical support was provided to integrate gender dimensions in horticulture and food security and empowerment of fishing communities. In Thailand the collaboration was on "Gender responsive technology for poverty alleviation in Thailand". In Viet Nam the partnership explored the issues of "Gender dimensions in the transitional economy of Viet Nam" with specific focus on the rural sector.
