Senior Officer, Gender and Development
Revathi Balakrishnan's work focuses on sociology of agriculture and rural development systems and social policy with gender equality. Specifically, she provides technical assistance to member countries in the areas social equity policies; gender and poverty reduction strategies; gender responsive data base and technology transfer programs, information and communication technologies for development in agriculture and rural economies. She implements the FAO Gender Plan of Action to ensure gender mainstreaming for the advancement of rural women.
Expertise: Rural systems and social policy analyses, as relevant to rural
poverty, food security and Millennium Development Goals; rural population
and resource and asset access and information and communication for development;
gender responsive agriculture education, research and knowledge systems and
technology transfer; distance education for rural women.
