2nd NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL POLICY WORKSHOP
December 12 , 2002, Damascus, Syria
The Second National Agricultural Policy Workshop was held in Damascus on the 12th of January 2002 under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Noureddin Mona, former Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform.
It was organized to disseminate and discuss, in a national forum the results of three major studies prepared in the course of the project activities:
• “Implications for the Syrian Agricultural Sector of a Possible Co-operation and Trade Agreement with the European Union”, by Prof. Jose Maria Garcia Alvarez Coque, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain;

Part Two, and
Part Three)
• “The Utilization of Water Resources for Agriculture: Analysis of the Current Regime and Policy”,
by Prof. Consuelo Varela Ortega, Polytechnic University of Madrid,
Spain; (Part One
and Part Two)
• “A Strategy for the Development of Syrian Agriculture”, by Prof. Alexander Sarris, University of Athens, Greece.

It also offered an opportunity for informing a wide audience on the salient features of the FAO Project GCP/SYR/006/ITA, at that time in its second phase, and of the National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC), which was established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, and was being set up with the support of the project.
