Rome Food Summit ends with renewed appeal to eliminate hunger
Consensus on an Anti-Hunger Programme has been one of the major results of the World Food Summit: five years later.
At a Press Conference that concluded the event, Thursday, Dr. Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), took the opportunity to clarify what the Programme would imply in terms of resources.

Rural Women at World Food Summit, Rome: The cases of Rwanda & South Africa

South Africa's Ulundi provincial Minister in the Department of Agriculture & Environment, Mr. Narend Singh at a seminar on Rural Women during the on-going World Food Summit in Rome, mentioned the country as a role model for the empowerment of women, through her institutional gender quota system and thus the ideal place to hold the forthcoming Summit on Sustainable Development, scheduled for Johannesburg.

1. In an interview, Ms. Margareta Winberg, the Swedish Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries and for Gender Equality Affairs expresses her conviction that the education of the woman is advantageous to the entire family.
