Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a YUNGA pilot country, in which the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), FAO, the Costa Rican Guides and Scouts Association (11 000 Scouts), the Metropolitan Park ‘La Libertad’, singer Debi Nova and band Percance are collaborating to implement a national YUNGA programme, focusing (to date) on food security, climate change and biodiversity conservation.

Since the project was launched in 2012, 10 schools have signed up to participate, directly involving over 320 children and young people between the ages of 5-20, who engage in related activities on a regular basis. The initiative is ongoing and growing, with its highly popular activities frequently featured in local and national press.
