Past Testimonies from Previous Race Winners

Daniele Troia and his partner Eleonora Bazzoni won the men’s and women’s categories of the 10K event in one of the previous editions. “This has been a race that has been always at the heart of both of us for its objectives,” explained Eleonora. “Daniele and I participate in competitive races and in charity non-competitive races very often, but I confess that I have more satisfaction when I participate in charity races because I can contribute to helping people to improve the quality of their lives.” The money raised from this race/walk will be donated to small-scale projects that provide direct assistance to food-insecure communities. These small projects improve the diets of families by providing them with healthful foods, and increase their incomes when they produce a surplus to sell in local markets. “People in general always say that the important thing is to participate in races,” said Eleonora. “I think it is important to participate in this run/walk event even more – it’s the best opportunity to combine fun with solidarity.” This year’s Zero Hunger Run takes place on Sunday 16 October, starting from Terme di Caracalla in Rome, and features a competitive 10K race and non-competitive 5K run/walk. “In addition to the reasons already explained by Eleonora,” said Daniele, “it's always nice to take part in a race in the centre of Rome, entirely closed to traffic, and see the beautiful city of Rome.” “Running is a healthy sport and provides the possibility to socialize,” he added. “There is nothing better than spending a Sunday in the company of so many friends.” Running provided another positive outcome for Daniele and Eleonara, who first met through an athletics club four years ago. “We have both run for many years but we didn’t start together,” says Eleonora. “I come from Sardegna and I started running back there. I moved to Rome to study and we met here.” To find out more about this year’s Zero Hunger Run and how to register click here
