FAO’s mandate is to improve nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, raise the standard of living in rural populations and contribute to global economic growth. This is related to the first Global Goal of its members on hunger reduction as well as the first Millennium Development Goal and the Secretary-General’s Zero Hunger Challenge.  The challenge of Zero Hunger means:

  1. 100% access to adequate food all year round
  2. Zero stunted children less than 2 years
  3. All food systems are sustainable
  4. 100% increase in smallholder productivity and income
  5. Zero loss or waste of food

Together with our UN colleagues, government, civil society, business and other nonprofit organizations, you can also be part of the efforts to ensure that every man, woman and child enjoy their right to adequate food.
