Supporting rural incomes
Work with governments to scale-up social protection systems to provide assistance to vulnerable population whose agricultural livelihoods and food security are affected. Advantages of assistance through social protection systems
(i) quick targeting through social protection information systems;
(ii) complementarity with government programmes;
(iii) timeliness of support, including for reaching households in areas that are difficult to access.
Support national Government in
i) removing specific conditionalities to existing social protection;
ii) promoting unemployment insurance schemes or specific subsidies for farmers, iii) providing debt and tax relief,
iv) expanded health insurance to mitigate impact of additional health expenses.
Programming needs to be designed to avoid either creating or exacerbating exisitng tensions and divisions.
