4. MULTILATERAL CONVENTIONS

As noted in the first legal report, upon independence Eritrea would be able to succeed to certain conventions to which Ethiopia was a party, could denounce those to which it did not wish to succeed and might adhere to others to which Ethiopia was not a party. To give the Government a better basis for determining its position, the following list of conventions has been compiled in two categories: those concerning the law of the sea and protection of the environment and those concerning the codification of international law. In each case the position of Ethiopia with respect to the convention is indicated.
