  2. Location : Nakhu Village, Champhone District, SVK.

  3. Main farming system : Integrated pond fish farming

  4. General information : Mr. Phoukhong is a poor farmer with 7 members in the family. He practices fish culture in his pond 0.09 ha in size and fish cum rice culture in 0.5 ha paddy field. In additional 2.3 ha area he grows paddy, vegetables, etc. The total family income comes from the above farming practices plus rearing of livestock. Lately, he has developed deep interest in aquaculture after seeing other farmers in his village, other nearby villages that then got maximum production of fish from fish culture with the rice and integrated farming system. The project staff contacted him again in February 1994 when the above informations were collected and later confirmed to be a TF in September 1994. In July 94 the project staff supervised preparation of his pond (which include chicken house with 25 chicken over the pond) and stocked 160 fingerlings of big head (7), silver carp (7) and Indian carps (20). Average stocking size was 7 cm and 5 g with the stocking rate of 1,778/ha. He also integrated pond fish culture with livestock. The fishes were growing well (10–22 cm). Survival rate was assessed at 80–85 %. The frequency of monitoring by the project staff was on an average one time in a month.
