Guinea

Vegetation description

Mangroves cover a large area of the coastline, which is broken up by many estuaries, islands and peninsulas. Two main species are found, red mangrove (Rhizophora racemosa) and white mangrove (Avicennia africana (syn A. nitida)). Rhizophora mangle and R. harrisonii are also noted. Mangroves are used for firewood and construction timber.
