The Workshop recommended:
- That a manual of the principles for management of recreational fisheries be
prepared by EIFAC.
- That data collection systems are established and implemented in member countries.
It should be noted that this applies to commercial, aquaculture and recreational
fisheries. There is also a need to establish basic guidelines and standards for
reporting statistics in these subsectors, e.g. different age groups of participants.
- That principles be developed for the economic evaluation of recreational fisheries.
This is linked to the need for information to counteract pressure from other user
groups.
- That Fisheries Organizations seek to raise the profile of recreational fisheries with
their Member Governments, including the importance of food value.
