Technology adoption

Dwayne Suter worked in the rural areas of Isabela, Philippines as a young engineer with the United Methodist Church. He introduced many innovative designs to handle the requirements of miracle rice. He has many anecdotes to recall his varied experiences; principally the introduction of changes, and new technologies must be made by example to make farmers understand scientific logic. A success story increases the level of acceptance, and this was true for the IR8 HYV rice, which to many rural folks was the turning point in their lives. He further relates that discussing new ideas with the local farmers, or participatory decision making, increases farmer's acceptance of new methods.
