Introduction
The Extension Staff Training one (EST1) for Lusaka Province was held over 3 days from 30th March to 1st April, 1998 at Kasisi Farm Training Centre. The training was attended by participants from 15 camps/blocks. There were 16 camp/block extension officers and 4 irrigation engineers respectively. The training was officiated by the Provincial Agricultural Co-ordinator (PACO), Mrs. M.A. Sitwala who actively participated during the first days session. A field visit was undertaken to Ngombe Camp Ngwerere area during the second day on 31st March, 1998.
In Central Province EST1 was conducted from 7 to 9 April, 1998 at Kembe Farm Training Institute. The training was attended by 29 camp/block extension officers and 7 irrigation engineers respectively. There were 29 males and 7 females. The Provincial Irrigation Engineer Mr. B. Simwanza opened the training and the actively participated throughout the training period. A field visit was undertaken during the second day on 8th April, 1998 to vegetable growers in Namangwa Camp.
In Southern Province the EST1 was conducted from 15 to 17 April, 1998. There were 24 camp/block extension officers and 6 irrigation engineers respectively. There were 22 males and 2 females. The training was opened by the District Agricultural Co-ordinator Mr. Musulwe. A field visit to vegetable growers near Kalomo Farm Training Centre took place on 16th April, 1998.
In Western Province the EST1 was conducted from 21st to 24th April, 1998. There were 11 camp/block extension officers and 3 irrigation engineers respectively. There were 10 males and 4 females. The training was opened by the Provincial Irrigation engineer Mr. K. Chiyala. A field visit was undertaken on 22nd April, 1998 to vegetable growers in Katongo camp.
In Eastern Province the EST1 was conducted form 27th to 30th April, 1998. There were 19 camp/block extension officers and 4 irrigation engineers respectively. There were 21 males and 2 females. The training was officiated by the Provincial Irrigation Engineer Mr. D.C. Chamba. A field visit was undertaken to vegetable growers in Sanjika camp on 28th April, 1998.
The list of participants is shown in appendix 1. Total of 97 camp/block extension officers and 24 irrigation engineers were trained during the extension staff training one. Altogether, there were 102 males and 19 females.
