Foreword

Foreword

The report presented here is the produce of the reflections of the grass root level females, males, youths and children along with the project personnel with whom the consultant had an opportunity to discuss about the various aspects of the project. The consultant has analyzed all their expressions, experiences and ideas from gender perspective and has put together with a humble objective to share with all the related and interested persons. Secondary sources of information have also been taken stock of such as the project appraisal, progress report, monitoring formats, reports written by the project officers and consultants on their respective fields. Thus, this report is a mixed scenario emerging from a comparative analysis of facts versus assumptions through which the project has been proceeding towards the accomplishment of its third year.

It goes without saying that limitations imposed by factors such as time constraint and the monsoon season could not be overcome. Another factor effecting this report is that it is based exclusively on gender analysis. It is up to the readers to bear and share her views and thereby put forward comments for improvement.

The consultant would like to express her heartfelt gratitude towards all the leasehold forestry group members whom she met in the field, the NGO personnel, the project officials, district level project staff, the members of the technical unit of the project for their sincere cooperation to her during the short term involvement with the project. Special thanks go to Mr. Netra Bikram Thapa, who very kindly assisted her to reach all the way to the remote village Gupteshwori, Ramechchap district on the difficult track in the monsoon.

At last but not least the consultant extends her sincere thanks to the project Chief and the CTA for allowing her to work in her favourite topic, "gender analysis" and "participatory rural appraisal" in the project area. Even if it was a very short duration, the experiences gained through it will certainly prove to be of immense importance both to herself (and as is hoped), to the project.
