Montserrat

Vegetation description

Mangroves are found in four different sites. Among these, the most important is Fox's Bay, which includes a permanent brackish pool. The mangrove species commonly found are Rhizophora mangle, Avicennia germinans, Laguncularia racemosa and Conocarpus erectus. This ecosystem is not significantly developed due to the morphology of the coast of the island. The steeply shelving shores that characterise Montserrat, do not provide favourable conditions for the growth of mangroves.
